The Process Monitoring Engineer – Hot Side position is in the Energy and Optimization Group located at the Port Arthur, TX Plant. The following is a summary of the position's job duties:
Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize day-to-day furnace and hot tower performance, including but not limited to:
Furnace performance vs. design
Optimization of furnace yield profile
Furnace decoke process
Hot towers heat balance and operation
Organize and analyze yearly performance review/audit of current furnace operation versus design. Document and present the findings and recommendations for improvement.
Complete impromptu process studies as dictated by operations, market conditions, etc.
Participate as a member of the Furnace Reliability Improvement Team (FRIT) in order to understand trade-offs associated with reliability and furnace optimization in support of furnace reliability improvement efforts.
Develop and execute process monitoring gap closure plan:
Track discrepancies of actual vs. expected performance from daily monitoring, yearly design performance audit, and/or impromptu process studies
Understand deltas between Kracker™ runs, RtOpt, and unit analyzers/meters
Work with stakeholders to determine causes and solutions to discrepancies
Work with unit operations and business personnel, if necessary, to prioritize resources to implement solutions for gap closure
Document resolution to gap and monitor future performance to gauge success
Share findings with stakeholders in a monthly report format
This position requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemical Engineering.
A minimum of 2 years process engineering experience required (experience in support of ethylene production is a plus), 5 - 7 year’s experience is preferred.
Experience using process simulation software to analyze and optimize an operating unit is required; experience using SPYRO™ is considered a plus.
The individual must work effectively with operations, co-workers, plant management and business unit personnel.
Good communications and interpersonal skills are required.
The candidate should be a self-starter with solid planning and organizational skills.
The successful candidate will have the ability to handle multiple projects and tasks at the same time.
