This position will be a member of the Business Support team within HR Shared Services and will serve as the primary support resource for compliance with the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (SAFE Act) for the RBS Citizens . All colleagues acting as mortgage loan originators, both under the Consumer Finance Division and the Consumer and Business Banking divisions, must be registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry (NMLS) and obtain and maintain a unique identifier. This position will be responsible for working with the NMLS to register impacted colleagues and ensuring ongoing compliance and maintenance requirements are satisfied.

Working with business lines and compliance to identify colleagues who require registration under the SAFE Act

Obtaining all required Human Resources information and documentation during the new hire process

Collecting information from mortgage loan originators to process registrations, including coordinating the transfer and processing of fingerprints

Registering employees and the bank according to procedures established by bank regulators in accordance with NMLS regulations

Investigating qualifications and working with the appropriate resources within Human Resources to take necessary action on reportable events and negative background information

Enter employee and/or bank data, as well as mortgage loan originator unique identifier, accurately into systems

Maintain data integrity and validity throughout the process, matching data between systems and source documents

Ensure registration stays on schedule

Renew registrations during annual renewal period

Monitor for changes in the mortgage loan originator’s personal data and submitting said changes to the NMLS in a timely fashion

Follow process for entering and validating data in the NMLS

Develop policies and procedures for registration process and controls to ensure employees not properly registered are prohibited from acting as a mortgage loan originator

Maintain thorough knowledge of internal SAFE Act policies and procedures

Communicate and address NMLS and SAFE Act policy questions to impacted colleagues

Ensure NMLS fees are paid and appropriately billed back to respective business lines


Strong written and verbal communication skills

Demonostrated an aptitude for detail

Strong personal computing skills (Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel)

Possess the ability to anticipate, plan, and execute are critical

Strong organizational skills, including ability to track status of multiple registrations at a time

Experience in mortgage/consumer real estate lending businesses and general knowledge of consumer finance and lending is preferred

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience

Familiarity with the NMLS, or similar registration system preferred

Previous experience administering the SAFE Act or other similar financial services regulatory programs/requirements preferred

Prior work experience in a risk or compliance role

Hours and Work Schedule

Hours per Week: 40

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM
