The University of Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a research faculty position at the assistant/associate professor level beginning March 1, 2011 to support developing an interdisciplinary research and academic initiative in the area of sustainability. We seek an individual with the knowledge and credibility to work at the forefront of sustainability and to lead in the development and conduct of cross-disciplinary/institutional research programs. Research in any area of sustainability will be considered, although we are particularly interested in candidates focusing on sustainable development, sustainable engineering, or environmental sustainability.
Candidates must have an earned Ph.D. in a relevant field at the time of appointment and be eligible to be employed in the United States. At the assistant professor level, individuals should demonstrate superior academic credentials and promise for a distinctive career in sustainability research. At higher ranks, an evident track record of research accomplishment including successful research funding is expected. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a vigorous externally-funded research program that features interdisciplinary, collaborative opportunities for students in sustainability studies. Postdoctoral research experience in sustainability is highly desirable, as is significant administrative experience, grant management experience and demonstrable success as a community liaison.
The University is located in a beautiful seaside community 50 miles south of Boston, 25 miles east of Providence and a half-hour from Cape Cod. The pleasant rural location provides a high quality of life with easy access to the cultural and scenic attractions of the region.
