Burns & McDonnell ( http://www.burnsmcd.com /) is seeking a communications professional with creativity and initiative to assist in the communication and outreach efforts in support of its engineering and construction projects. The position will be based in New Gloucester, ME project office of the New England Regional office. Some travel may be required. The ideal candidate must be a self-starter with excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as strong organizational skills.
Assume the lead position in overseeing the Public Involvement- related duties of the assigned client Project.
Establish and maintain relationships with property and business owners affected by large-scale construction projects.
Develop and manage communication and outreach plans that support project objectives and milestones.
Develop and distribute public information materials such as brochures, handouts, promotional materials, presentations, newsletters, signs and other materials to inform and update project audiences.
Monitor and respond to inquiries received through the project hotline, website and other sources, and respond to requests for information in a timely manner.
Plan, coordinate and implement public involvement activities and outreach for the project, such as public meetings, information sessions, and other special events.
Document and maintain records for issues, concerns, and requests from property and businesses owners using the Company's internal Contract Manager database.
Proactively seek opportunities to build project awareness to keep communities, businesses, and other interested parties informed of project activities.
Handle special assignments and projects, as assigned.
Training and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, journalism, marketing or a related degree.
Minimum of three years experience in these or similarly related fields.
Knowledge and Skills:
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint. Must become proficient in using the Company's internal Contract Manager database.
Ability to work effectively and professionally with various audiences (i.e., public officials, property owners, businesses, construction contractors, etc.).
Ability to take initiative, work independently, yet also work well in a team environment.
Ability to work under pressure and to meet deadlines.
Knowledge of the electric or construction industries is a plus, but not required.
