Award-winning and independent family owned newspaper company in Iowa is looking for a self-motivated editor to oversee a weekly county-seat operation with a rich tradition. Position involves writing and editing. The Jefferson Bee & Herald serves Greene County, Iowa. The weekly newspaper is owned by The Carroll Daily Times Herald — operated by the same family since 1929. The Daily Times Herald earned the Iowa Newspaper Association's 2012 Newspaper Of The Year Award. Together, The Daily Times Herald and Jefferson Bee & Herald cover a wide geographic area in west-central Iowa, turf which is often overlooked by other media, giving enterprising journalists endless opportunities to break interesting and thoughtful stories. We don’t micromanage editors and writers. Want to practice journalism the old-fashioned way working with a family that knows and loves its communities, a newspaper where writers write, without corporate politics and structure? This could be the place for you — whether you are an ambitious newcomer or a veteran of a larger, downsized daily looking to land at a newspaper that’s not afraid to tackle big stories and carries a statewide reputation. Salary is commensurate with talent and experience. We will pay for talent. Please email resume, references, cover letter and 5 to 10 clips or writing samples to d.burns@carrollspaper.com. Application material may also be mailed to: Douglas Burns, Vice President for News, Carroll Daily Times Herald, 508 N. Court St., Carroll, Iowa, 51401.
