Position Title: Fitness and Wellness Trainer
Job Overview: The Fitness and Wellness Trainer will be responsible for all aspects of running the Fitness Center and for providing supervision to members/patients utilizing the Fitness Center.
This team member will integrate into the overall chronic care model that is utilized at 11th Street. They will create a healthy community where members/patients are cared for with a broad approach that addresses the full depth of wellness with support around lifestyle modification. The trainer will motivate, encourage and educated to create a healthy work environment through staff classes, wellness initiatives and educational sessions.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required, exercise physiology or equivalent required.
Personal Trainer Certificate required or certification required.
Personal Training specialty certifications and group fitness certifications required.
Previous fitness related experience required, CPR/AED certification required.
Healthcare Providers Service Organization Certificate of Insurance and Liability required.
Conversational Spanish a plus.
Master's Degree in health related field a plus.
Must have a positive, proactive work style and attitude.
Experience with program development and implementation a plus.
Willingness and flexibility in working with unique culture of 11th Street, its transdisciplinary model and its physical environment.
Ability to work independently while executing goals that are developed in team-oriented environment.
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and time management/organizational skills.
Must have strong computer skills, including Excel, electronic
membership databases/ computer systems. SPSS a plus.
Prior experience with underserved communities.
Must understand, respect and exhibit cultural competency, sensitivity, and age specific appropriate interactions.
Essential Functions : Oversee daily functioning of fitness center.
a. Responsible for handling maintenance, safety and cleanliness of fitness center equipment.
b. Supervise and maintain a safe environment for activity
Establish exercise programs for fitness center members/patients and staff that promote balanced health and incorporate preventive principles.
a. The trainer will develop exercise plans that focus on strength training, cardio intervals, balance and core activities, to address whole body wellness while respecting individual's needs, abilities and limitations.
b. Help members/patients to develop health, wellness and fitness goals that are realistic, coordinated with the other goals as developed by the Physical Therapist, Nurse Practitioner, and/or other members of the healthcare team.
c. Provide exercise supervision, direction and education while working to promote independence and self efficacy in individual fitness behaviors.
Provide staff and member/patient wellness programs and classes. These include but not limited to current programs such as Biggest Loser, Kickboxing, Butts and Guts and Heart and Soul.
a. Make programs accessible to all participants by modifying class activities for all personal limitations.
b. Strengthen and expand current program offering for a more comprehensive, diverse schedule.
c. Take lead on coordinating staff wellness initiatives that foster healthier behaviors for all center staff. Engage other staff as necessary and appropriate.
Oversee ongoing expansion and development of fitness center and health center as a whole.
a. Assist in research development and data collection by collecting outcome measures for grant funding.
b. Train other staff on proper procedures and policies to register new members/patients and track participation of programs.
c. Mentor Drexel Co-ops and other student interns to help support fitness center activities and schedule. Provide them with valuable experiences through participation in programs and activities involving members/patient interactions.
d. Work, in conjunction with other team members to develop new initiatives and programs as required.

Coordinate, collaborate and communicate with other disciplines towards goals of programs and members/patients.
a. Fosters positive and collegial relationships with team colleagues and fitness members/patients.
b. Work closely with Physical Therapist for members/patients with pain and health complications, coordinate with PT to establish and encourage/maintain safe and effective workout routines. This includes helping members/patients do their home exercise routine and carryout proper exercises while being cognizant of PT techniques.
c. Interest and ability to identify needs of patients and consult with appropriate staff and practitioners as appropriate. Integrate knowledge acquired into the treatment and practice of members/patients.
d. Oversee integration of fitness center with other services offered at 11th Street.
