Description

The Global Tax & Customs function employs approximately 200 professionals. The function is headquartered in Wayzata, Minnesota. Sixty U.S. tax professionals work at the headquarter offices. Other tax professionals are located throughout the world, with principal offices in Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Winnipeg, London, Amsterdam and Singapore.

The Global Tax & Customs function has an opening for a Property Tax Manager within the Indirect Tax Group. The Indirect Tax Group is responsible for managing all aspects of Cargill’s US indirect taxes, including sales/use, property and excise. Individuals who work on this team work directly with business units, taxing authorities and other internal corporate functions. Property taxes managed by this group include all personal property and real estate for Cargill’s US businesses. The person hired into this role will be the lead for all aspects of Cargill’s US personal property tax matters.

Principal Accountabilities:
25% Review and sign off on all personal and real property tax filings prepared by staff and/or outsourced service provider

25% Manage personal property tax outsource (respond to questions, provide validated data inputs for compliance, coordinate and organize monthly calls, etc.)

25% Responsible for all personal property tax planning initiatives, including abatement management, risk mitigation strategies and reduction opportunities

10% Manage all aspects of personal property tax controversy

5% Manage Cargill internal shared service for property tax for tax bill payments and business unit recharges

5% Primary contact for property tax software provider (Thomson OneSource Property Tax System)

5% Various other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required:
Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or Business, or 5 plus years of experience managing a property tax compliance function in lieu of a degree

Minimum of 8 years of personal property tax compliance, valuation, planning and audit experience for multiple states in a large corporation or consulting firm

Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills

Demonstrated project management skills

Understanding of the US GAAP requirements for property tax accounting

Preferred:
CMI, CPA, MBT

Experience with use of Onesource Property Tax System

Real estate valuation and planning

Property tax budgeting/accrual processes

Experience with PeopleSoft and SAP fixed asset systems.

People management experience
