Primary Objective
The VP Business Development reports to the CEO and is responsible for developing strategic relationships to ensure the best use of company’s resources in pursuing the company’s long-range growth and profitability objectives.
Primary Duties / Responsibilities
Outbound Development Opportunities:
Create new WatchGuard outbound partnership opportunities – at least two per year:
Identify and assess strategic outbound partnership opportunities
Develop relationships with potential strategic partners, including potential OEM’s
Negotiate terms and review contracts with all outbound partners
Maintain and strengthen the resulting ongoing relationship
Strengthen Relationships with Existing Vendors:
Continuously improve vendor delivery performance and lower costs in sustainable way:
Regular, proactive vendor communications – in person, by phone, and electronically
Communicate our needs and product related requests
Negotiate terms and oversee vendor performance, including contract management
Determine vendor renewal or replacement before contract expiration
Successfully negotiate either contract end, or renewal, to provide low, sustainable costs and high vendor performance
Establish New Inbound Partnerships:
A key responsibility is to identify technologies that would be great additions to UTM, that would enable WatchGuard to be first to market, and that would have a big impact. Included:
Follow industry trends; research and learn new emerging technologies and trends
Identify inbound partnership opportunities
Search for and evaluate candidates
Coordinate technical evaluations
Negotiate terms and review contracts with all in-bound partners
Manage product integration
Maintain and strengthen the resulting ongoing relationship
Qualifications
The desired candidate is an experienced leader and business development executive with a strong track record of success in business development in a high technology environment. You must be an excellent negotiator and relationship manager. You must be energetic, forward-thinking and a creative individual with sales skills, a strategic visionary with the ability to understand technology, analytical ability, and good judgment. You must be experienced in the analysis of contracts and a decisive individual who possesses a “big picture” perspective and is well versed in systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
BA/BS degree; MBA or related degree preferred
10 years related experience in a high tech business development arena
Five or more years of successful experience in managing partnerships, negotiating the contractual arrangement and managing the implementation of technology solutions
A driven personality, "can do" attitude, and a results-oriented management style
Ability to plan and think ahead over a 1-3 year time span
Ability to manage and organize multiple priorities
Innovative, creative, strategic thinking and big picture orientation
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

Travel Requirements
International and domestic travel may be required occasionally
Working Conditions
Position primarily works in an office environment. Use of computer equipment required.
