ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Prepare, examine, or analyze accounting records, financial statements, or other financial reports to assess accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting and procedural standards
  • Prepare, code and approve journal entries or documents to proper general ledger accounts based on Part 32 requirements and company procedures
  • Review and approve the assignments completed by Staff Accountant
  • Reconcile and review balance sheet accounts monthly, note and report and/or resolve discrepancies found
  • Compile and review statistical, financial, accounting or auditing reports and data pertaining to such matters as cash receipts, accounts payable and receivable, and profits and losses
  • Coordinate efforts associated with the preparation of regulatory documents or submissions
  • Prepare or review regulatory filing submissions to be filed with the FCC, affiliates and the PSC
  • Prepare or maintain technical files as necessary to support regulatory filings and requirements
  • Provide technical review of data or reports that will be incorporated into regulatory submissions to assure scientific rigor, accuracy, and clarity of presentation
  • Prepare or direct the preparation of additional information or responses as requested by regulatory agencies, consultants, legal counsel
  • Review materials submitted to department for compliance with applicable regulations and policies
  • Maintain current knowledge base of existing and emerging regulations, standards, or guidance documents, including internal documentation
  • Review regulatory rules or rule changes and ensure that they are communicated through corporate policies and procedures
  • Advise project teams on subjects such as regulatory requirements and compliance issues
  • Provide support as required to Controller

Required Qualifications and skills

· Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field; MBA desirable, but not required
· 3-5 years’ of general accounting experience; Supervisory experience a plus
· Knowledge of institutional business policies, practices, and terminology
· Understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles; (telecom accounting [Part 32] a plus)
· Knowledge and experience with Accounting software (i.e., Microsoft Great Plains) a plus, but not required
· Ability to analyze financial data, prepare financial statements and explain variances from Budget to actuals
· High degree of computer literacy
· Ability to work with little supervision; self-starter; team player
· Must be a good planner, well organized, can multi-task and meet deadlines
· Strong analytical and demonstrate problem solving skills
· Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
