Coordinate transportation for inbound and outbound shipments; implement transportation procedures.
Develop, implement and maintain transportation procedures for the origin points.
Review export orders and/or import purchase orders with respect to weight, unitization, and route.
Evaluate and select appropriate equipment, carrier, and most efficient transportation method.
Coordinate orders relating to all origin shipping points to ensure proper scheduling, preparation, and documentation.
This includes Customer Service, Production Planning, Plant Shipping, and Government Records.
Similarly coordinate with Freight Forwarders, Ocean Lines, Consolidators, and domestic transport providers.
Create deliveries and shipments to enable the Order to Cash processes to proceed after order entry.
Be subject matter expert for entering and shipping bulk orders in the AS/400 system.
Be a key resource for establishing new items and customers in the AS/400 system for bulk.
Work with Customer’s systems (e.g. AAFES) to enable pick-up and/or delivery.
Assist with conducting rate studies and make recommendations based on findings.
Act as a liaison with International and customer service to receive and disseminate information regarding export orders.
Prepare bills of lading for export shipments from all plants.
Coordinate with Government Records Department.
Review and analyze transportation contracts.
Monitor services provided by all carriers.
Assist with evaluation and selection of partners for transportation services (domestic and international).
Monitor Hazardous Materials Regulations (all modes) and compliance therewith.
Review and audit freight bills.
Report activities related to plant and corporate traffic to the Director Logistics.
Minimum three years of diversified transportation experience.
Previous supervisory experience preferred.
Basic understanding of all modes of transportation.
Knowledge of general business, economics and geography.
Knowledge of transportation law, the Interstate Commerce Act, Department of Transportation Regulations (federal and state).
Ability to read, comprehend and interpret carrier's tariffs, contracts, and other transportation documents.
Knowledge of Hazardous Materials Regulations.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Skilled user in Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel.
Experienced and proficient with a corporate ERP software solution.
Must be adaptable to a constant state of change.
Good analytical skills.
Ability to interact with a wide range of educational and professional levels in day to day job duties.
Ability to access all areas of the plant.
Bachelor’s Degree in Business or related field. Or commensurate experience
