. Position Summary: Department Directors are responsible for personnel, capital and operating budgets, and compliance. Reports to CNO and is a liaison to departments, physicians, administration, patients, guests and the community. Department Directors should be visionary as to the opportunities to develop, grow and expand their service line.

The following description of duties is intended to outline the essential responsibilities of the person in this position. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of job duties and responsibilities.Department Director role needs to provide leadership and coordination of patient outcomes and metric reporting; work toward standardization of policies and procedures; oversee Magnet efforts in their department; understand and support technology related to metric reporting; collaborate with Nursing Director Leadership team and All clinical non-clinical directors/managers, hospital CNO and Administrative leadership team. Work collaboratively to provide leadership to promote safe, evidence based care and implementing quality activities to support nursing's reportable metrics and excellent patient care. Lead and manage direct reports including budget development & responsibility and coordinates and leads Nursing Department initiatives.

Working knowledge of national quality data bases such as NDNQI and other department specific organizational governing body. Needs to have a Master Degree in a Healthcare related field or extensive clinical experience background- Minimum 5-7 years of progressive leadership roles provide leadership and coordination of activities which supports the Hospital, Nursing and Department strategies and goals. Department Directors need to be able to recruit and maintain a quality stable staff to meet the level of acuity of the hospital census. Coordinate scheduling and staff assignments to insure that sufficient but not excessive staff is available to meet the needs of the patients in a cost effective manner.

Insure that the nursing staff receives sufficient in-service education, training and development to meet their needs for self development and maintain current certifications. Develop, implement and administer nursing policies and procedures to insure staff has appropriate guidelines that meet the various regulatory requirements. Supervise nursing activities verifying that medications are given as ordered and appropriate documentation is maintained to meet physician needs and regulatory requirements. Maintain quality care standards insurance that admissions and transfers are appropriate considering the patients level of acuity, the hospital's capacity and staff, and whether the patient has proper consent.

Licensure/ Certifications: Must hold a current license from the Kentucky State Board of Nursing. Current BCLS required upon hire; Professional Association certification preferred within 1 year. Experience: Minimum of 5 years management experience managing a clinical unit.

Clinical experience evidenced by specialty training specific to the nursing area. Progressive nursing leadership experience demonstrating solid management is necessary for this nursing position. The Nursing Director should have the ability to carry out all responsibilities in a thorough and timely manner. Excellent communication (verbal, written), interpersonal, organizational, leadership, exceptional interpersonal relations and problem solving skills required.
