Position Summary:
This is an off campus work study position located throughout the Albuquerque Area. Albuquerque Public Schools - Lavaland ES, Lowell ES, SR Marmon Elementary and Wherry Elementary.YDI- Wool Warehouse Do you enjoy working with elementary age children? Do you want to work with youths that come from disadvantaged, high-risk backgrounds and families? Do you want to make a difference to children? The New Mexico 21st Collaborative Learning Community After-School Programs provide academic-based after school and summer programs in communities throughout New Mexico. These particular 21st CCLC programs are managed by Youth Development, Inc. (YDI). YDI is a non-profit community service organization. These programs are at no charge to students and their families. Reading and Math Tutors and Activity Leaders assist in the development and implementation of literacy, academic and enrichment activities for elementary school students. Activities promote positive youth development, leadership and love of learning. Staff members act as mentors and model pro-social and leadership behaviors for participating students as one method of promoting a safe, consistent, nurturing and positive program. They also encourage parent and community involvement. Orientation, coaching and on-going professional development are offered. Enrichment activities are fun and energizing for the students and may include particular talents individual tutors possess. If you enjoy working with children and with the community, this is a challenging and rewarding program in which to serve. An APS background check is required for this position; this will be entered and paid for by YDI should you be selected for a position.

Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must be hardworking, caring, responsible, and eager to work with children and their families. Reading and Math Tutors must be willing to act as an effective member of a team. Strong interpersonal and problem solving skills, flexibility and an ability to conduct professional and considerate interactions are a must. This program requires a work schedule of 10-15 hours per week, and availability between 2-5 pm. Centers are open 4 to 5 days a week; with flexibility on which particular days of the week tutors are able to commit to. Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience working with children and/or communities.
