Provides technical leadership and support, maintenance, troubleshooting and technical training for departmental employees. Maintains inventory, configuration, and licensing records. Manages the Instituteâ??s various servers and installs, maintains, and administers application, file, and web servers in support of Distance and Distributed learning. Manages the Instituteâ??s various servers and installs, maintains, and administers the Universityâ??s Saba Centra Meeting Server for delivering synchronous Distance Learning courses. Recommends, installs, configures, tests, and upgrades Desktop, Laptop, and Server, hardware, software, and local area networks to function at their highest possible performance level for the Institute for Distance and Distributed Learning (IDDL). Helps assess and mitigate risks to the department's information systems and data, to prevent security violations. Provides technical support for the university community engaged in distance and distributed learning activities at Virginia Tech. Design, implement, and maintain Linux and Windows servers in a clustered environment. Assists in troubleshooting and maintaining IDDL maintained websites.
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in a technology related field. Experience installing, upgrading, troubleshooting, and managing Windows 7 AND Windows Server 2003 or greater. Experience installing, upgrading, troubleshooting, and managing Linux/UNIX based Servers and Apache Web Server AND Internet Information Server 6 or greater. Experience installing, upgrading, troubleshooting, and managing Databases. Experience installing, operating, and troubleshooting problems with office desktop computers and software including Microsoft Office applications. Experience installing, upgrading, and managing TCP/IP networks. Experience addressing network security issues. Demonstrated experience with Perl, Python or PHP. Planning and analytical skills needed with ability to work with minimal supervision in an intensive service-oriented, team environment. Strong communication skills and excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
Experience managing and Maintaining or demonstrated ability to manage Saba Centra Meeting server. Experience managing Windows Servers, Desktop and Notebooks computers in a Domain based environment. Experience installing, upgrading, troubleshooting, MAC OSX. Demonstrated, Comprehensive knowledge of RedHat/CentOS 5 or greater based Linux Servers. Demonstrated, Comprehensive knowledge of Linux-HA based Linux Cluster. Experience installing, upgrading, troubleshooting, and managing MySQL servers. Experience working with server based backups. Experience with Bacula.
