Regular, Part-Time (50% FTE), RCUH Non-Civil Service position with the University of Hawaii Cancer Center (UH Cancer Center), located in Honolulu, Hawaii. Continuation of employment is dependent upon program/operational needs, satisfactory work performance, availability of funds, and compliance with applicable Federal/State laws.

MINIMUM MONTHLY SALARY: $1,160.00/Mon. (@ 50% FTE).

DUTIES: Serves as the research specialist for the National Institutes of Health R01 grant titled “Project Success Model: Evaluation of a Tiered Intervention”. Responsible for teaching the school-based curriculum, and helping print, collect, and prepare for teaching. Performs entering data, field collection, and analyzing activities when needed. Follows project protocols. Ensures adherence to human subject protocols. Maintains communication with Principal Investigator (PI) and all other project personnel. Participates in internal meetings and external meetings. Consults with other members of Prevention and Control Staff. Reports and evaluates the implementation. Participates in preparation of manuscripts.

PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four (4) year college or university with coursework in education, psychology, social science and/or public health. EXPERIENCE: At least one (1) year of experience working with children, students, and/or adolescents. At least three (3) months of experience working on substance use issues, minority health, smoking and/or alcohol prevention. Experience in quantitative and qualitative data collection procedures. ABIL/KNOW/SKILLS: Good knowledge of research design and assessment concepts, health promotion and education, field research methods and procedures, and statistical analysis procedures. Knowledge of the structure of school systems and other public agencies. Good knowledge of electronic communication (email), word processing programs (WordPerfect, Microsoft Word), graphics and utilities programs (e.g., PowerPoint, Access), and statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, SAS, or STATA). Able to communicate well orally and in writing and with PI and junior-level researchers. Able to conduct focus groups and administer surveys in field. Must possess a valid driver’s license and personal insured vehicle. Post Offer/Employment Condition: Must be able to pass a post offer criminal background check. PHYSICAL/MEDICAL REQUIREMENTS: Able to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds.

SECONDARY QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s Degree level coursework from an accredited college or university. Experience teaching a school-based curriculum in public schools. Experience working at public schools in Hawaii. Experience working and collaborating on curriculum development and implementation. Follows the Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols in collecting data.
