TITLE: BIOMEDICAL EQUIPMENT TECHNICIAN

Department: Biomedical Engineering
Reports to: Biomedical Supervisor
Supervises: No one.

Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Biomedical Supervisor or lead person will perform a variety of maintenance, repair, installation, calibration and fabrication duties relating to general medical equipment and systems. May also perform supervisory duties in the absence of the Biomedical Supervisor.

Essential Functions:
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic and electro-mechanical equipment; record repair data and expenditures according to departmental procedures.
  • Perform preventive maintenance inspections and safety testing of medical equipment.
  • Calibration of clinical equipment.
  • Install electronic and electro-mechanical equipment
  • Demonstrate and explain the correct operation of equipment to the medical and nursing staff.
  • Does pre-installation checks on all new equipment and assures proper calibrations.
  • Maintains inventory of parts and orders as necessary.
  • Must be able to complete the physical, sensory and mental requirements of the position.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Additional duties as may be assigned by your supervisor.

    Qualifications:
  • Associate Degree in Biomedical Technology, Electronics Technology, or equivalent military experience.
  • Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, operating instructions and schematics, read and follows written instructions in troubleshooting.
  • Be familiar with the proper use of test equipment.
  • Certification from the Association of the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation desirable. 3 years experience as a Biomedical Technician or five years as a Biomedical Equipment Technician Assistant with a successful Competency Assessment.
  • Successful experience in satisfying JCAHO requirements and leadership experience desirable.
  • Must have valid driver’s license in the state of residency. Must possess and maintain a clean driving record as evidenced with no exclusions listed under insurance contract.
  • Working Conditions: Potential exposure to Latex products, blood borne pathogens, hazardous materials and communicable diseases.
