: Under the general supervision of the Chief of Urology or his designee and the Director, Cancer Services and Ambulatory Care, performs a variety of duties to encompass, but are not limited to the care and management of pre- and post-operative urology patients, including assisting in the operating rooms. Works in a collaborative team environment that supports the academic mission to train urology residents. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patient.
  • Works closely with the urology residents as part of the urology team to coordinate patient care needs day-to-day for teaching patients; may also be assigned responsibility to coordinate patient care needs of non-teaching patients.
  • Assists in the preparation of discharge summaries for the attending physician's signature.
  • Assesses patient status, participates in the development of patient care management plans through communication and collaboration with the Registered Nurses, attending physicians, residents, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
  • Performs credentialed procedures as delineated by the medical staff credentialing requirements
  • Evaluates and cares for patients who present who in the Emergency Room with urology problems.
  • Provides first or second assistant coverage for the primary surgeon during surgical cases on both inpatients and outpatients.
  • Participates in Surgical Service Educational activities.
  • Annually completes required training in urology.

Qualifications
: Physician Assistant Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Physician Assistants
  • Successful completion of American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support course, and licensure from the Rhode Island Department of Health.
  • 3-5 yrs experience with an "inpatient" clinical environment required
  • General urology or surgical practice experience in general surgical procedures preferred but not required
  • Healthcare environment such as acute care hospitals, physicians' offices and ancillary healthcare enterprises.
Nurse Practitioner Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner Program
  • Certification by the National Commission for Certification of Nurse Practioners
