ANNUAL SALARY

$37,627.20 - $51,688.00 plus excellent benefits package, including 2.7% @ 55 PERS Retirement, employee contributes.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Under general supervision, conducts interviews with prospective applicants using Housing Authority manuals, handbooks, and HUD guidelines to determine eligibility for public housing. A significant part of the work involves interviewing low-income applicants and/or senior citizens, which requires knowledge and understanding of behavioral patterns of culturally and economically disadvantaged people. Receives and processes applications for admission to public housing. Interviews applicants to obtain required data regarding income, family composition, health, social problems, veteran status, paying ability, and net assistance required to determine the degree of need for public housing. Verifies information given by applicants with employers, public and private health and welfare agencies, and others. Notifies applicants of eligibility requirements, methods of selecting prospective tenant, and housing opportunities. Selects applicants for tenancy and establishes waiting lists. Interprets and applies Housing Authority policies and procedures. Prepares leasing documents, weekly and monthly reports; and follow-up correspondence to applicants; and performs other related functions as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination equivalent to: high school diploma or equivalent And two (2) years of increasingly responsible experience providing services to low-income people in fields such as public housing, social welfare, public health, employment service, counseling, vocational guidance or any related field: OR graduation from an accredited college with specialization in public or business administration, sociology, psychology or related field. Must possess a valid class ‘C’ California Driver’s License.

As a condition of new and continued employment, employees in this classification must participate in mandatory direct deposit of payroll.

EXAMINATION:
Applications will be reviewed for relevant experience, education, and training. Applications must be detailed and complete for proper evaluation. The best-qualified applicants will be invited to the testing process, which may include any combination of oral, written, or performance examination. Applicants must pass each phase of the testing process with a rating of 80% or higher to continue in the selection process.
