The VDH is seeking a qualified individual to serve as the Deputy Director of the Office of Epidemiology (OEpi), respond to issues raised by the OEpi Director, and ensure the OEpi is responsive to the needs of the health districts. Serves as a chief epidemiology advisor on preparedness of public health disaster response systems; provides emergency response and expert medical, epidemiology and technical advice and consultation to physicians, epidemiologists and local health personnel, other state agencies, and the general public on the medical/public health response to bioterrorism and emerging diseases in VA; determines the most current medical information regarding treatment and control of diseases of public health significance; provides direction to providers pertaining to disease and disease outbreaks; and assesses and identifies health issues. Works with agency staff, including central and district offices; local, state, federal and international agencies; community based organizations; elected officials; and the public to assure implementation of quality public health programs. Oversees the Divisions of Immunization,Disease Prevention and Radiological Health, ensuring established performance measures are obtained, effective and efficient resource allocation and quality public health services are provided.

Assumes the role and authority of the OEpi Director during absences and coordinates assigned special projects that may cross multiple divisions. Initiates actions to improve efficiencies and streamline, automate processes to the extent possible.
