The primary responsibility of the Externship Coordinator is to procure new externship sites, maintain professional and positive relationships with established sites and to provide assistance to students before and during their externship experience. Externship Coordinators are responsible for partnering with the career services and education staff to support successful outcomes for SCI students.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop strategic plan for acquiring and maintaining externship sites and update on an annual basis;
Develop and conduct professional marketing/sales presentations to potential externship sites on a regular basis and in coordination with career services staff;
Maintain documentation and provide weekly updates on the following :
Externship to placement conversion ratio
Provide continued professional support to each site acquired by conducting regular site visits;
Assist in coordinating and organizing program advisory committee meetings and memberships;
Establish and maintain a professional relationship with students at the start of their programs by presenting externship overview during new student orientation;
Conduct externship orientation meetings and/or workshops with each student;
Keep informed of employment trends, demands, and site/employer feedback;
Assist in administering externship site and employer surveys through the year and provide quarterly analysis (and upon request) of results;
Track externship attendance and enter in Attendance log to submit to registrar;
Maintain ongoing contact with externship students;
Maintain externship to placement conversion ratios of 50%;
Determine skill deficiencies and coordinate with directors of career services and education to create remediation plans for affected student;
Assign students to externship experiences that match skill sets by coordinating with education and career services staff;
Timely completion of externship site evaluations, by both site supervisor and students;
Conduct externship exit interviews with each student to document that all requirements have been met in accordance with state, accrediting, federal and internal regulations and requirements;
Work closely with Director of Career Services to ensure a smooth transition for the student into the workplace; and
Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelors degree or associate degree and five years of experience in the field preferred.
Able to conduct oneself in a professional manner.
Effectively and accurately present information, and respond to questions from groups and professionals.
Experience in the medical field preferred.
Strong computer and communication skills.
