Position Description:
Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer Specialist
Job Department / Program: Antenna Subsystems Operations
Job Location: Palo Alto, California
Team/Department: Composites Technology – Support the Composite Technology Department in the identification, planning and implementation of robust manufacturing processes, equipment and tooling required for production of advanced composite hardware and assemblies fundamental to the viability of SS/L’s Spacecraft Operations. Identify and maintain product line cost control, manpower requirements and schedule fidelity.

Role/Job Responsibilities:
Develop and apply prevalent composite manufacturing processes including hand layup, compression molding, vacuum bagging, curing, machining, testing and inspection
Lead a dedicated team of junior manufacturing engineers and production technicians to succeed in a challenging production environment
Perform cost account management responsibilities for assigned product lines
Develop and implement improvements to existing production processes
Support Mechanical Engineering in the development, evaluation and approval of composite hardware designs with respect to producability and tooling requirements
Produce and review detailed manufacturing instructions in support of composite laminated hardware and bonded assemblies
Create manufacturing flow diagrams
Identify manpower requirements
Prepare material quantity estimates
Issue Purchase Requisition
Demonstrate proficiency in application of Material Resource Planning (MRP)
Identify and implement capital improvement projects
Generate and review production schedules
Document hardware non conformance issues and coordinate dispositions
Demonstrate proficiency in the use of Parametric Technologies, ProE, three dimensional modeling software and related manufacturing applications
Experience with Microsoft Excel, Spreadsheets and exposure to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Project
Identify and provide expertise in the use of available metrology equipment to define hardware dimensional compliance including Photogrammetry, Laser tracker, CMM and conventional inspection techniques
Recommend and justify usage of available graphite, fiberglass and Kevlar prepreg materials with respect to cost and performance
Develop and coordinate tooling concepts for required part molds and assembly fixtures
Interpret and apply geometric tolderancing to ANSI-Y14.5 standard
Ability to work in a cross functional team environment
Prepare and present product related presentations as required

Job Qualifications:
Assisting in production layup and bonding operations – coordination of work center resources
8 years Manufacturing Engineering experience preferably in a production environment
Demonstrated written and oral communications skills
Established Personal Computer skills
4 year Bachelor of Science degree in Materials Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Applied Sciences or Mechanical Engineering
