The primary role of the position is to conceptualize new, modified, or improved vehicle concepts, support photorealistic renderings and animations, and promote the industrial design department throughout the various business segments that comprise the corporation. The ideal candidate will have an eye for aesthetic design and proportions while also having the necessary computer skills to develop and visualize the concepts in the 2D and 3D virtual computer graphics world. .


  • Design with minimal supervision new or modified vehicle concepts or components to support engineers and designers on the overall vehicle design that will meet or exceed customer expectations and help make Oshkosh Corporation an industry leader in vehicle design.
  • Create photorealistic renderings of new or existing designs to support engineering design reviews, internal and external marketing, and bid proposals.
  • Support animation by setting up cameras, animating frames and video encoding.
  • Post process images to expand the options of what is capable from the raw renderings.
  • Maintain and build a library of virtual components that build the 3D model.
  • Maintain and build a library of materials and mappings to support the rendering and animation to the level of photorealism.
  • Maintain and build library of virtual studios to help automate the rendering process.
  • Provide assistance in developing an internal web site to promote the industrial design department.
  • Communicate effectively on a team—possessing good organizational skills and self-discipline to meet deadlines.
  • Maintain a positive attitude when required to be flexible and multi-task.
  • Perform job duties in an ethical, professional manner which is consistent with the Oshkosh Way. Conduct duties consistent with the Company’s mission statement, quality objectives, and defined policies and procedures.

    • Associate’s degree in Graphic Design or Mechanical Design, or equivalent work experience
    • 3+ years of related experience

    • Experience with 2D sketching software (Autodesk Sketchbook Designer or equivalent)
    • Experience with 3D modeling and rendering (Autodesk 3dsMax, Rhinoceros, Vray)
    • Experience with scripting for 3D model importing and exporting and automated modeling
    • Good hand sketching ability
    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes to ensure that conceptual designs can be built efficiently
    • Experience with Adobe Photoshop or similar software
    • Experience with web design software
    • Effective communicator with good organizational skills and the ability to maintain self-discipline to meet deadlines
