Varec, an SAIC company, is seeking to add a Defense Development Manager who will manage the defense development team for product releases and contract support activities. Varec is a leading supplier of automation, control, and information systems for the oil and gas market. Varec develops and maintains a suite of software and hardware products, and provides systems integration and lifecycle support services for defense organizations, airlines, and oil companies. These products are provided as turnkey solutions and as a Software as a Service through Varec’s data center. The Defense Development Manager will be responsible for the planning and performance of all defense development projects to ensure that projects maintain cost, schedule, and performance requirements. The candidate will work closely with defense program managers to oversee the defense development projects and provide maintenance support for the defense products.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage technical personnel supporting U.S. DoD and foreign defense contracts
Manage the defense development projects to ensure that program deliverables and objectives are met
Manage Tier 3 software technical support for defense customers
Estimate and document the level of effort in response to software change requests from defense customers
Plan, organize, budget, and schedule the defense development projects
Oversee the everyday operations of the defense development projects and contract support activities
Qualifications:REQUIRED SKILLS:
At least 2 years of project management experience as well as a strong technical background with emphasis on software development or systems engineering
In-depth technical management experience with large scale software or systems in a Microsoft environment, to include Microsoft .Net based web services and applications, Microsoft Windows Server, Internet Information Server, and SQL Server
Ability to plan and estimate work accurately and manage projects to deliver on schedule within strict time and resource constraints
Excellent written and verbal communication skills enabling him or her to communicate effectively with the customer, management, and engineering team.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
Strong desire for experience delivering software for the US DoD, to include knowledge of DoD security standards and practices
Experience designing and developing high-availability systems, to include load balancing and clustering technologies
Experience with Microsoft Visual C#, Microsoft Visual C++, Microsoft SQL Server, Microsoft Windows, Microsoft ASP.Net, XML, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, 2008, and Visual Studio 2008/2010
Experience with Microsoft Cloud Services or other cloud computing technologies
Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification
Experience working in CMMI Level 3 or higher organizations

PREFERRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE LEVEL:
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or Engineering and 7-9+ years of relevant experience.
