About Counsyl OperationsOver the last few years, we°ve grown from a dorm room start to become one of the largest clinical genome centers in the world. Our test is now prescribed by physicians for more than 1% of all births in the United States.Counsyl Operations is the glue that holds everything together. We handle supply chain optimization, insurance billing, clinical support, fulfillment logistics, and everything else that binds the software to the hardware to the clinic. Our group comprises premeds from Harvard, engineers from Stanford, and statisticians from MIT. For some of us, a typical day involves talking to patients and physicians and helping them understand clinical genomics.
For others, it means the design and implementation of processes to efficiently handle ever larger volumes of physicians and patients. And for still others, it means the systematic use of data science to analyze and optimize these processes. If you love the idea of working with doctors and reinventing medicine to make it more efficient, let°s definitely talk.About youYou should have a BS, MS, or PhD in a quantitative subject (such as Computer Science, Physics, or Mathematics) or a biomedical field (such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or Genetics). As a member of our operations team, you will work across the organization in one or more of the following areas: Data Science: use our internal tools to slice, dice, and visualize datasets to guide business decision making Clinical Support: speak with physicians and patients on a daily basis, solving their problems and helping them understand topics in medical genomics Accounting: bake accounting metrics into every process, ranging from reagent reordering to shipment schedules Billing: design analytics and metrics to ensure efficient and patient-friendly insurance billing Inbound and Outbound Shipping: own the process of getting a test tube to the patient and back as cost-effectively as possible Supply Chain/Operations: use linear algebra and differential equations to optimize protocols and minimize inventory costs Cost/Benefit Analysis: develop and present analyses to payors that demonstrate the savings attributable to preventive testing Territory Mapping: analyze territories, generate leads, and prioritize the efforts of our clinical accounts staffTo rotate through the subgroup that works directly with patients and physicians, it will be very helpful to have excellent knowledge of molecular genetics and strong interpersonal skills. And to work with the data analysis subgroup, you should have at least basic programming experience in Matlab or R. That said, given strong raw ability, we will train you in the necessary computer science, genetics, and statistics.
