Champlain College, a fast-paced, cutting-edge teaching institution that strives to be a national leader in educating today's students to become skilled practitioners, effective professionals, and global citizens, seeks an accomplished, innovative leader to serve as its next Dean of the Division of Education and Human Studies (EHS). This is an exceptional opportunity to shape and strengthen EHS and contribute to Champlain's impressive upward trajectory. Reporting to the Provost, the new Dean will be the strategic and administrative head of the Division working in close collaboration with highly engaged faculty, and the deans of the four other academic divisions.
EHS's diverse array of undergraduate programs includes Education (Early Childhood and Elementary, Middle School and Secondary), Psychology, Social Work, Criminal Justice, Legal Studies, Environmental Policy, and online master's programs in Mediation and Conflict Resolution, Early Childhood Education, and Law. The division has 15 full-time faculty and enrolls over 300 students. The Dean is responsible for academic administration, financial management, and program development, and will play a critical role mentoring new EHS faculty. S/he will focus on fostering academic excellence and ensuring that programs remain current and attractive in order to grow enrollment in an increasingly competitive environment. The Dean will serve as a member of the faculty, teaching on a limited basis, sit on the Academic Affairs Team, and represent EHS on various College committees.
The successful candidate will bring a strong academic background coupled with proven excellence in academic leadership, management, and teaching at the college/university department level or higher, including demonstrated experience in faculty development, program creation and growth, and budget stewardship. Practical experience that informs academics in a field relevant to the division, along with experience working with accrediting bodies and external organizations, and a track record of fostering interdisciplinary activity and innovative programming are critical. The ability to manage multiple priorities, respond to the needs of students and other constituents, and demonstrate a commitment to diversity/equal opportunity and intercultural understanding are essential. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or other terminal degree and higher education teaching and administrative experience in a relevant discipline.
