JOB SUMMARY: Internship positions are designed to introduce candidates to Nationwides corporate culture and customized intern development programs. The duration of this program is through the summer months, but may extend throughout the year in 10 to 12 week periods. Internship programs may or may not provide academic credit in exchange for work performed.
Individual Products & Solutions Operations is responsible for providing underwriting, new business and in-force administration to over 1.7 million existing life & annuity customers and for brining on 150,000 new customers per year. We have approx. 600 associates and 100 contractors/offshore resources processing all the work, underwriting the applications, answering phone calls and for supporting the entire Life & Annuity business lines.
A variety of responsibilities, including reviewing processes and workflows for continuous improvement opportunities, designing and building quick hit solutions using Microsoft tools (Access, Excel, etc.), conducting analysis of trends and forecasting future work volumes, evaluating current rewards and recognition programs and making suggestions for improvements, and other Operations Management assignments that will be identified real time.
Continuous Improvement/Process Improvement education and/or experience, Great Communication Skills, Problem Evaluation & Resolution skills, Experience utilizing Microsoft Suite of tools, specifically Access and Excel). Ability to bring some fresh ideas to the work environment to assist with associate engagement (recognition, rewards, etc.)
Education/Knowledge: Qualified internship candidates have completed their sophomore year of college. Possession of solid academic achievement (3.0 GPA or higher) is desired.
Experience: Involvement in student activities and/or some work experience. Prior intern experience is preferred.
Skills: Must be able to operate personal computer and/or related software. Must have basic keyboarding skills. Must have the ability to perform basic math and operate a calculator. Must have oral and written communication skills to interact with all levels of employees. Must be able to operate standard office equipment and create/maintain filing systems.
Working Conditions: Normal office environment. Non-standard or extended work may be required based on project needs.
