The Union Sanitary District (USD) is an independent special district formed in 1918 which provides wastewater collection, treatment and disposal services to the residents and businesses of the cities of Fremont, Newark, and Union City in southern Alameda County. The District serves an estimated 330,000 residents and over 3000 commercial and industrial parcels.

The Deputy General Manager (Deputy GM) is a new at-will position at the District. The intent is for the Deputy GM to become the General Manager when the current General Manager retires within the next 18 months. The Deputy GM will have a key leadership role in the ongoing updating, implementation and success of the Strategic Plan and of other District-wide planning efforts including asset management and succession planning.

The ideal candidate will have 10 to 15 years of progressively responsible management experience, five to 10 of which must have been in the water or wastewater industry. Management at a public agency is desirable. A Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or other related discipline is required. A Master's degree and possession of a valid registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of California are highly desirable.
