You will be creating the experience for tens or hundreds of thousands of daily users, by making digital companions comfortable and intuitive, while addressing expectations for a human-like dialog that are exacting and far-ranging, but which are often held subconsciously. You will work on a team of colleagues and client experts to discover user requirements, and to match these needs against client goals, as well as strengths and limitations of the technology. You will validate functionality, design experience flows, script dialog, define grammars, and adjust text-to-speech output to exacting levels of detail in order to realize applications that “get the job done” with a minimum of fuss while nevertheless displaying flair and personality. You will work closely with visual interaction designers, speech scientists, linguists, and audio engineers to reach these goals. You will need to move quickly and easily from one engagement to the next, and be comfortable multi-tasking. Your successes will be measured both by business targets you reach or surpass and the positive impression your designs leave in the minds of users.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Serve as the Dialog Design lead on Nuance-implemented projects. Specific tasks will include:
Discover and analyze applications requirements from the user's perspective
Characterize, in detail, archetypes for users and a persona for the system being built
Create effective speech dialog designs including call flow, dialogs, and prompts to accomplish the requirements in concert with a multimodal interface on a variety of mobile platforms
Assist in implementing these designs, including interacting with associate designers and developers, performing usability tests, and analyzing performance Qualifications:
Number of Years of Work Experience: 5+
Native-level writing fluency in English.
Demonstrated writing experience exhibiting personality and flair.
Proven track record in achieving quick and specific results with a minimum amount of direct supervision.
Proven, extensive, hands-on track record in high-tech product or services design.
Up-to-date knowledge of media and social networking applications, platforms, and ecosystems.
Up-to-date knowledge of mobile device trends in the U.S.
Formal education or professional experience involving linguistics
Experience in Usability Testing
Bachelors or Masters in human factors engineering, product interface design, cognitive science, experimental psychology, software design, or a similar degree.
