The Product Technology Manager is a newly created role that is responsible to manage the strategic development and implementation of product technology activities and provide expert support to commercial activities required to establish and grow BASF's market position utilizing metal organic framework (MOF) technology.
The Product Technology Manager will also provide direction, guidance and active support to product development, IP management, technical qualifications, customer support, supplier materials and external technical benchmarking activities. This position also acts as the key liaison with R&D and provides strategic direction in support of the business plan. In addition, this position is responsible to develop, implement and maintain appropriate processes aimed at capturing and transferring technical and IP knowledge related to BASF's metal organic framework (MOF) materials technology & applications.
The primary responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
Ensures appropriate collaboration with the commercial and R&D teams to develop, monitor and recommend adjustments to the strategic and operating plan based on market conditions and trends.
Provides technical expertise on MOF applications related to targeted market segments.
Provides functional expertise to the management of the product line, including value pricing support, marketing communications and content development.
Closely partners with the R&D organization to improve the understanding of MOF characteristics and potential market applications.
Acts as technical liaison with the R&D team providing technical feedback from commercial customers and partners.
Manages the product portfolio life cycle including development, validation, launch and execution activities in support of the business strategy.
Performs detailed evaluations of internal & external technologies to ensure world-class technology development and utilization via various benchmarking activities.
Leads the new product and technology introduction process / strategy. Coordinates between R&D, commercial and manufacturing teams for successful product launches.
Provides leadership to ensure that all new technology innovations / intellectual property is protected and appropriately defended in the marketplace.
Develops strong technical and commercial relationships with customers, partners and 3 rd party organizations.
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Science, Engineering), is required. Specific coursework or studies in nanotechnology is highly desired.
3 years of experience in product management, R&D and/or technically relevant roles.
Demonstrated familiarity and/or experience with MOF technology is a significant asset.
Knowledge of and experience working with start up ventures, joint ventures, strategic partnerships, is an asset.
Must clearly demonstrate superior communication, interpersonal, influencing and presentation skills, with the ability to interact with key decision makers at all levels at both customers and internal management including executive levels.
Demonstrated ability to quickly prioritize and operate in a flexible, fluid environment.
Must be willing and able to travel over 50% of the time both domestically and globally.
