The Unity Council is a non-profit community development corporation committed to enriching the quality of life of families primarily in the Fruitvale District of Oakland. Its primary focus has been to create a healthier and safer community for families and residents by implementing and managing integrated programs addressing economic, social, and physical development.
Under the supervision of the Accounting Supervisor, the Staff Accountant – Accounts Receivable is a key team player who helps achieve monthly production goals of the agency. This position will be responsible, in partnership with the Senior Accounts Receivable Accountant, in producing the monthly cost-reimbursement and other billings relating to the agency's contracts and grants. The incumbent will also work to produce aging and other regular reports and to reconcile revenue activity for various grants.
Prepare monthly funds reconciliations by comparing all source documents, including time sheets, against the AccuFund accounting system-generated fund reports
Make adjusting journal entries as necessary
Prepare monthly billings and support documentation based on reconciled fund reports, using grantor prescribed format
Enter approved billings into the AccuFund A/R module
Code cash receipts according to grant budgets and enter into the AccuFund A/R module
Assist with preparation of weekly A/R ageing report and reconciliation to general ledger
Provide program managers with updated grant status reports
Maintain donor binder
Prepare support documentation for annual audit and Form 990
Perform additional duties as may be assigned by the Accounting Supervisor
AA or BA degree in Accounting, 3 or more years experience in nonprofit or government accounting
Experience with detailed fund allocation and government billing
Recent nonprofit experience working in accounts receivable on government-source grants
Strong organizational skills
Knowledge of general accounting, with emphasis on accounts receivable
Nonprofit accounting experience required
Ability to keep organized, accurate records
Ability to present financial information in an organized, understandable manner for both financial and non-financial audiences
Ability to prioritize in a dynamic, high-paced environment
Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel
Experience in fund-accounting software
