The successful candidate will teach four courses per semester, advise students, and evaluate student progress towards meeting competencies and requirements for employment in the field of history, admission to graduate school, or attaining licensure to teach social sciences in public education.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY:

The candidate will be broadly trained historian and able to teach survey courses in U.S. History I and II, as well as World Civilizations I and II. The candidate will also be able to teach upper division coursework in U.S. History, and it is desirable that the candidate has a field in African American History, the History of Africa, or European History. The candidate will also provide assessment of student learning outcomes and ongoing evaluation of the History Program. The position also requires engagement in departmental or university service work, in addition to an active scholarship/research agenda.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Ability to teach a wide range of courses in the History Program curriculum. Advise History and Social Science Education students about academic requirements and registration for classes. Contribute to ongoing program improvement through annual evaluation of program outcomes and objectives. Prepare required information for quality enhancement planning and evaluation. Serve on faculty committees and actively participate in recruitment of students to the program. Assist in ongoing program curriculum development and participate in service to the program, department, school, and the community. Actively engage in professional activities related to History and Social Science Education, including a demonstrated commitment to a specific research agenda. Demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students, and assume additional responsibilities as needed for the improvement and growth of the program.

QUALIFICATIONS:

An earned doctorate in the field of U.S. or World History, and prior teaching experience on the junior college or university level is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Computer skills are a must, and the applicant should be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and course learning or management software including Blackboard, BANNER, and other online platforms. The candidate should also be able to operate simple office equipment including a calculator, copier, projector, Scantron machine, and other devices.
