PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:|
Meets with personnel from user departments as well as Information Services staff and vendors, to understand and resolve database issues connected with short and long-term application system plans.
Manages and maintains all Cache and MSSQL enterprise database environments by following stringent vendor guidelines. Such guidelines and processes consist of: installs and upgrades, managing Cache and MSSQL configurations per vendor recommendations, backup and restore of the environment, monitor and troubleshoot unusual system behavior and establish baselines for system performance. The database administrator should have a good understanding of cache and MSSQL, most vendor utilities and run levels and also Cache and MSSQL journaling concepts.
Develops specifications and prepares project plans for database construction and maintenance.
Designs, implements and maintains various database management systems, including Cache and MSSQL.
Creates and assigns data element descriptors necessary for data organization, access and control.
Prepares data dictionaries, schemas, and other documentation.
Monitors effectiveness of databases, identifies and resolves problems.
Trains department personnel regarding use and maintenance of databases and provides technical expertise in analysis and resolution of complex problems involving data base systems.
Develops policies and procedures for documentation, security, control, backup, recovery and updating of data. Establishes procedures to monitor and report compliance.
May manage complex Information Services multi disciplinary projects including project planning, task assignment and project implementation.
Maintains up-to-date technical knowledge of Cache and MSSQL by attending seminars and reading professional literature.
Participate in councils, quality improvement teams, and other such committees as required.
Maintain quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies, procedures and objectives.
Perform other related duties as required.
Equivalent to Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Business Administration or a related field required. A combination of computer-related technical training and successively increasing information systems management responsibility may substitute for a degree.
Four years progressively responsible experience in programming, systems design, and data base management. Demonstrated aptitude in the abilities required for systems analysis, as evidenced by successful completion of the vendor-provided screening test and certification process, the ability to function and communicate effectively as a member of a project team, and the interpersonal skills to elicit and convey details of business and clinical operations and workflow processes to assure the optimal adoption and utilization of the electronic health record system.
