Under the supervision of a licensed architect, analyze client needs and utilize independent thinking to develop design concepts and refine them into design solutions, expedited concept development and document production for competitions, and programming and all phases of aviation/transportation, justice, institutional, science & technology, healthcare, education, infrastructure/vertical transportation, corporate interiors, and large scale commercial projects, including new construction, renovation, tenant improvement, parking garages, and demolition/site preparation; Analyze sketches, photographs, notes, and other input material to determine best approaches for completion of drawings to solve technical issues of design in relation to sites and buildings; participate in all phases of project planning, streetscapes, land use, transportation, and open space planning projects; conduct site reconnaissance, site investigations, surveys of existing conditions and take as built measurements; Interpret traffic impact analysis and management plans and analyze as built plans, photographs, notes, and other input material to determine best approaches for completion of drawings to solve technical issues of design in relation to sites and buildings; coordinate input from multiple project architects and designers to translate into site plans; Provide research, planning, and design solutions, applying knowledge of design, construction procedures, building codes and regulations for international and domestic projects. Research and apply/incorporate knowledge of building codes into technical documents of local and international project. Research and recommend materials to be used; determine best approaches for completion of drawings to solve technical issues, applying design processes such as Healthcare principles; participate in project team discussions and public meetings to provide recommendations when revisions from government agencies, planning officials, clients and other stakeholder groups are necessary and translate clients' functional and spatial requirements for site and structures into conceptual design solutions, incorporating LEED sustainable design principles; coordinate communication between licensed Architects and Senior Healthcare Planners and other internal and external team members as well as clients and represent the firm to obtain approvals from clients and federal, state and local agencies having jurisdiction over projects. Participate in meetings with clients, consultants, contractors, and public agencies on a given project; analyze design concept of buildings and spaces in 2D/3D, translate them into freehand sketches, plan, elevation and perspective view drawings, and create and prepare design presentations working drawings, and architectural detail specifications for concept design presentations and presentation packages using 2D/3D CAD, rendering, layout and building information modeling (BIM) software, including Revit, NavisWorks, AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop, Rhino3D, Maya, Grasshopper, 3D Studio MAX, MentalRay, Vray, VrayRT, SketchUp, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere, Flash, InDesign, and Painter in metric and imperial standards; utilize advanced modeling tools (Rhino3D, 3D Studio MAX & Revit) to model complex geometry forms and general building and interior models. Use advanced task automation techniques (scripting: RhinoScript, Grasshopper) to analyze computer 3D data incorporating generative solutions into architectural design process; prepare architectural visualization imagery utilizing advanced rendering techniques (MentalRay, VRay, VRayRT) both for design evaluation and marketing materials, incorporating color, composition and perspective and a wide range of rendering styles to suit various presentation needs. Use illustration and photo-editing software (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, Painter, InDesign) to adjust computer renderings, photographs and create 2D imagery and graphic design elements as a part of design process and client presentation. Translate computer models into physical models for design development and presentations, preparing data for architectural model shop equipment (laser cutter, 3D printer); coordinate with civil, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection (MEP/FP), lighting, landscape, code, traffic, parking, concession, public relations, signage, acoustic, security, curtain wall, special systems, geotechnical, baggage handling, vertical transportation, and structural consultants to incorporate building systems and facilities components into unified design for client and agency review and approval; prepare project documents in MS Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Manage project data and transmission and all electronic communications utilizing HOK CA Database, Newforma, Prolog or other approved software; evaluate general contractor bids and project budgets and coordinate construction budgets with clients and contractors; respond to requests for information (RFI's) and review and respond to submittals; perform necessary modifications of drawings and specifications; maintain log of all RFI's and Submittals including date received, date returned and status of unreturned requests utilizing FDI, HOK CA Database or other approved software; assist the Project Manager in establishing task schedule and manpower requirements consistent with the project agreement; Assist in managing project consultant agreements and project budgets; assist in identifying and quantifying tasks outside the scope of the Owner-Architect agreement for negotiation of additional services; assist with reviewing and approving contractor payments; conduct site-visits, prepare field observation reports, final inspections, project closeout, including punch lists, and record drawings; review and prepare certificates of substantial completion, occupancy, and final completion; conduct post-occupancy evaluation and review of clients' use of space. Bachelor of Architecture (5 year) degree or foreign equivalent plus five years progressive experience to include all phases of commercial, mixed use high-rise, retail, residential, institutional, cultural, healthcare, and urban design projects, including new construction, renovation, historic preservation/adaptive reuse projects; design and concept development for competitions; space planning and programming; custom detailing; signage design; researching codes and regulations; developing designs and preparing presentations using hand sketching, building physical models, and Revit, AutoCAD, 3D Studio MAX, MentalRay, VRay, SketchUp, Rhino 3D, RhinoScript, Maya, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere, Flash, InDesign, and Painter; coordinating with and assisting to obtain approvals from clients and regulatory agencies having jurisdiction over projects, including with local architects and consultants for international projects; coordinating with civil, MEP/FP, lighting, landscape, code, traffic, parking, kitchen, signage, acoustic, security, curtain wall, fa├žade maintenance, special systems, geotechnical, vertical transportation, and structural consultants to incorporate building systems into designs and with contractors on RFI's and change orders; managing project data & transmission of all electronic communications using project information management software, Newforma; reviewing shop drawings; evaluating contractor bids and project budgets and coordinating construction budgets with clients and contractors; conducting site visits and progress meetings; and assisting in preparing and reviewing field observation reports, final inspections, punch lists, and certificates of substantial completion.
