Overview:
The Logistics Business Unit is seeking an experienced Solutions Architect to work in a highly complex program. The Logistics Business Unit has applications across a variety of technologies ranging from mainframe, Java, .net (c#), SSIS, BizTalk, Oracle, SQL Server, TIBCO and many other technologies. This position would provide strategic focus, leadership, and business and technical consulting and expertise in the development, modification, and implementation of highly complex information systems that conform to MST standards and methodology and that may cross FOBs. Drives projects or project phases to completion from a technical leadership perspective. Strategic initiatives include owning and driving the Architectural Roadmap to streamline the program and create significant technological efficiencies.

A top level technical design contributor in one or more highly specialized phases of application system analysis and programming with strong business application knowledge. Acting independently with minimal direction, supports the management team in providing leadership and technical consulting and expertise in the development, modification, and implementation of highly complex information systems that conform to MST standards and methodology. With extensive technical and business knowledge of all phases of application systems analysis and programming, provides strategic focus on system solutions that may cross MST FOBs. May be responsible for driving multiple phases of a project to completion. Independently researches and resolves technical problems of the highest complexity. May serve in the MST Solutions Framework roles of Development Lead, Project Manager, Testing Advocate, or Operations Advocate.

Key Accountabilities:
Establish technical design goals based on customer requirements and explores design options to help define and coordinate project scope

Researches existing software components and technology, explores design and infrastructure options, and recommends solutions based on customer requirements

Promotes system reuse by using process templates and application layering techniques

Translates customer requirements into functional specifications and develops the conceptual, logical and physical data models to integrate solutions into the existing infrastructure

Estimates time and work effort to build and stabilize systems for new projects, enhancements, and maintenance according to specifications, and builds and manages the project plan/schedule

Designs, builds, codes, or modifies highly complex systems

Works directly with technical resources, scheduling, and changes and participates in feature trade-off decisions

May be responsible for training, mentoring, directing, and validating the work of other programmer analysts

Keeps management well informed on a timely basis of progress, status, and concerns for each assignment

Collaborates with management to ensure the technical direction of the program is sound

Effectively communicates ideas and information with peers, management, and customers

Acts as liaison between the project team and operational or infrastructure groups for capacity planning, technical design issues, hardware or software acquisition, etc.

Skills Summary:
Bachelors degree in CIS/MIS preferred

Minimum of 4-5 years experience or formal training with one or more programming languages and/or software packages currently used at MST in a client server or mainframe environment (Cobol, C, C++, Visual Basic, OS/JCL, CA-Masterpiece, UNIX, Database, CICS, SQL, DB2, Java, HTML)

Excellent understanding of full life cycle development

Excellent technical, analytical, problem solving, multitasking, and time management skills with consistent attention to detail

Advanced understanding of analytical techniques such as logical data modeling and process modeling. Knowledge and skills related to additional technical tools are a plus (Visio, data modeling tools, window prototyping tools)

Ability to effectively learn and use new programming concepts, tools, and methodology to support the needs of the business

Advanced functional understanding of the business area and how it interacts with other areas of the business and detail processes

Overall understanding of the MST suite of systems and their interdependence is a plus

Advanced understanding of emerging technologies and systems development best practices

Strong leadership, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across functional lines and at many levels

Strong conflict resolution, negotiation, and consensus building skills

Excellent presentation (written and verbal) communication skills

Ability to effectively communicate technical issues and solutions to all levels of business

Ability to effectively share technical information and train and mentor less experienced or knowledgeable team members

Advanced PC Windows skills (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Project or other project management tools)

High level of teamwork skills (communication, ability to share ideas and solutions for work challenges)

Experience with Logistics systems is a plus

Internal: Departmental and project team members and information resources including data architecture, documentation and middle management: obtain information, direction, and consensus; provide project status.

External: Customer and user groups: requirements gathering for system development and modification and feedback on system performance and usability; software and hardware and other technical resource suppliers.
