The position is located in the Vehicle Maintenance East/West section, Transportation Branch, G-4 Logistics Division, Marine Corps Base, Quantico, Virginia.


You must be a US Citizen.

Must be registered for Selective Service, see Legal & Regulatory Guidance.

Must be certified in at least one ASE certification area.

Overtime/Shift/Weekend/Holiday Work Required

Physical exam is required.

This is an emergency essential position.

  • Repairs, major overhauls or modifications of engines, including diesel, gasoline and multi-fuel water-cool .
  • Repairs, major overhauls or modifications of transmissions, to include transmissions which have braking, steering, and differential systems mechanically integrated with the transmission, cross-drive transmission, cross-drive transmission or similar multisystem transmissions .
  • Tests for grounds and other electrical faults, checks for overload circuits and corrects it .
  • Maintains and repairs all above and below ground electrical equipment including switch gear, batteries, transformers, traffic lights, aircraft warning lights, aircraft runway and field lighting .
  • Repairs emergency circuits, splices cables and repairs to all electrical systems.
  • Conducts tests and performs visual inpsections on ordinance grounding systems.

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC without more than normal supervision such as:
Experience removing, installing, repairing and rebuilding cylinder heads, cylinder blocks, and oil pumps.
Experience tracing and locating automotive defects through visual and auditory examinations as well as by using a variety of testing equipment.
Experience performing unusual and difficult operations, such as installing an engine and transmission in a chassis.
Experience removing, replacing, overhauling and adjusting worn gears and sector, bearings, gaskets, seals, control valves, centering springs, steering columns, steering wheels, tie rods and hoses.

Selectee is required to participate in the Department of Defense direct deposit of pay program.

Incumbent must be able to obtain a Class “B” Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hiring date and keep current at all times.

In the event of an emergency, the incumbent cab be notified to report to work during non-duty hours and during an emergency situation may be assigned duties other than those identified in this position description.

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in at least one area under Heavy Truck, Automotive or School bus.

Selectee may be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

A security clearance is a requirement of this position. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a position offer or removal.

Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
