Senior Database Administrator

Summary:
This job represents the sixth position within the Database Analyst (DBA) job family. Incumbent is responsible for all aspects and activities related to database applications’ access and interaction with the database. Incumbent provides leadership, coordination, and promotes cooperation to maximize the database management environment. Provides project management, leadership, guidance, and training to less experienced staff on database standards, structures, procedures, and techniques. Incumbent is responsible for defining, implementing, and maintaining departmental procedures to ensure data security and integrity. Provides guidance to less experienced staff on data extraction, manipulation, and system architecture, and directs the maintenance and use of the central data dictionary. Prepares activity and progress reports regarding database management projects. Provides overall leadership and manages projects related to the implementation of new designs and processes. Incumbent is expected to have a working understanding of DB standards and reasons for implementation, and is expected to understand Change Management methodology and its utilization for database changes.

Requirements:
Serve as technical expert for database application, understand application logic and requirements; ensuring that application interacts with database efficiently.

Serve as the technical expert in Oracle technologies; working collaboratively with the functional and development teams.

Participate in Oracle database applications systems design, tuning, and operations.

Assist in the resolution of complex problems in support of production.

Ensures that the detailed physical design of database and data structures comply with data policies, standards, principles and meets the established level of service agreements/goals for the system.

Demonstrated experience in working on root cause analysis for Oracle database issues.

Performs complex DBMS design using data modeling tools. May direct less experienced employees in this effort.

Writes highly complex job scripts using operating system commands to execute sequential procedures.

Participates in system architecture design activities, including the creation, management and implementation of multi-office project plans of high complexity.

Assist senior level staff in completing assignments of high complexity.

Provides third level support to the application and development support staff.

Supports the highest levels of problem escalation.

Assists less experienced staff with problem resolution and application of fixes in all DBMS systems, including SQL and Oracle.

Provides complex documentation in regards to standards, design, support, implementation and troubleshooting databases and DBMS.

Works with developers to allocate complex objects from the data dictionary.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Skills needed:
Bachelor’s degree specializing in information systems, technology, or equivalent work experience.

At least one to three years of experience as an Application Database Administrator or manager. At least five years preferred.

At least five to eight years of experience supporting Oracle database systems. Supplemental experience supporting Microsoft SQL Server database systems preferred.

At least eight years of experience in the field of relational database management and/or support.

At least five to seven years of experience with DBMS security and OS security as it relates to DBMS preferred.

At least two to five years of experience in complex database design, referential integrity, and modeling.

Ability to lead and manage project-related assignments of long duration and high complexity.

DBMS certification preferred (Microsoft Certified DBA or Oracle certified associate, professional or master).

In-depth knowledge of installing and maintaining Oracle and Microsoft SQL relational database management systems.

Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
