Responsible for developing Enterprise wide network strategy, architecture, and standards encompassing a wide range of transport topologies, advanced networking services, and network protocols. Recognized as primary subject matter expert in one or more areas of IP network architecture, provides network design services for customers of the I&NT Network Services department, provides top level escalation path and resolves issues related to network services, and manages design projects as they relate to existing and new Cox products/services.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES
Develops and communicates the overall Network infrastructure strategy, design, future plans, and key performance metrics.
Researches and recommends telecommunications technologies & products, develops strategies for products that can be integrated within the enterprise and service provider network infrastructure repeatedly and consistently.
Consults with other service providers on available network solutions and advanced service product options available to meet their business requirements.
Designs customized solutions as required to support business objectives.
Develops RFP¿s based on requirements, sets up vendor conferences, evaluates bids and recommends the selected network services or products to the appropriate management entity.
Meets with vendors to discuss product offerings, addresses technical issues/deficiencies and influences new products and services to meet growing and changing requirements.
Interfaces with management for presentations and high priority / high visibility projects.
Develops networking architectures, standards and designs for key enterprise systems, including networking hardware/software, protocol, transport, signaling and topology standards.
Conveys product information and integration strategies to the internal network teams and network suppliers.
Maintains knowledge of emerging trends in the industry through participation in user groups, and disciplined monitoring of periodicals, research groups, etc.
Collaborates with peers during standards / product development.
Leads enterprise-wide related networking projects, including research and recommendation of new technologies.
Manages the delivery of key global network projects that are executed by network suppliers.
Provides guidance to other staff members on medium-to-large scale network related projects including preparation of budgetary input for network hardware, software and services.
Communicates project design requirements to network suppliers.
Represents Network from a technology perspective and collaborates with all departments in Network Services, client services, network security, Data Center hosting, IT facilities, voice services and application architecture teams across all phases of the infrastructure lifecycle.
Creates network infrastructure design and security standards.
Participates in industry bodies monitoring technologies, proposals, and issues of technical interest and relevance to IP network architecture projects.
Evaluates relevance of discussions related to IP network architecture and represents Cox on issues affecting IP network architecture specifications.
Provides detailed engineering support and consultation to other groups, such as CBS, Marketing, and Operations.
Assists with determining budget requirements.
Assists with coaching and mentoring of less experienced engineers.
Provides technical strategic and tactical planning guidance for IP network architecture.
Develops Acceptance Test Plans (ATPs) to enable testing product compliance.
Ensures long term technology goals are consistent across all architecture groups.
Works with service activation on projects that involve multiple architecture groups to provide a single point of contact for multiple areas.
Assists Video and MTC Technologies department to ensure products and services are compatible with Arizona¿s network architectures.
Assists Cox Corporate to ensure products and services are compatible with Arizona¿s network architecture.
Assists Architecture groups with equipment evaluation and selection.
Creates and implements Disaster and Recovery standards for Network infrastructure.
Creates weekly status reports of assigned project status, system events and evaluations.
Performs other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
Education: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent work experience. Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or related field preferred.
Experience: Generally 8+ years of directly related work experience. 5 ¿ 7 years experience in data system implementation and trouble shooting technical problems. Time may be credited for college coursework in applying experience requirements. Certification may be required in some areas. Experience in Service Provider network design. Experience with OSPF and BGP routing protocols. Hands-on experience implementing MPLS VPN implementations. Hands-on experience implementing OSPF and BGP protocols. Experience in managing IT projects of large scope and size.
Other: Cisco Certified Network Professional. Training, to include: Cisco Training for MPLS, Cisco Training for BGP. Valid AZ Drivers License with driving record that meets Cox standards.

Large Scale IP Routing Capability including Netflow and capacity planning
Routed Protocols (BGP and OSPF)
Network Solutions for IP Technologies
Digital Television Engineering
Structured Wiring Standards.
Cisco IOS Operations
Juniper JUNOS Operations
IP Telephony including SIP signaling, MGCP and ITP technologies
