Responsible for patient meal service on assigned units with regards to menu selection, knowledge of modified diets, tray assembly, delivery and pick-up, special requests and nourishment needs. Responsible for quality customer service via patient satisfaction survey results on assigned units.

Job Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent. Must have the ability to read and write, follow written and verbal instructions and complete simple math skills and basic computer skills. Prior knowledge of modified diets and healthcare food service recommended.

Additional Details

1. Completes yearly age specific competency training through in-services.

2. Introduces the Catering To You program, takes menu choices, provides diet awareness cards and use of AIDET when communicating with patients, staff and employees.

3. Follows medical center and department policy and procedures on universal precautions and patient isolation.

4. Demonstrates knowledge of modified diets, proper condiments and diet restrictions.

5. Ability to offer alternatives to menu as allowed on prescribed diet in accordance with cultural, ethnic and religious food preferences.

6. Maintains accurate and current information for each patient on assigned unit(s) and uses new census to check for most recent diet changes prior to each meal.

7. Responsive to patient needs during meal selection, tray delivery, catering rounds and tray retrieval.

8. Resolves patient concerns or complaints immediately and/or reports needed assistance to supervisor as appropriate.

9. Responsible for quality of service, graded by internal and/or external surveys, meeting survey score benchmarks for assigned units of responsibility and as a department.

10. Participates in hospital and department performance improvement program and assists in making improvements for patient care.

11. Assists in the implementation of actions as appropriate, and recommended, by performance improvement teams and hospital wide performance improvement committee.
