The Louisville, Kentucky Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), an affiliate of the University of Louisville (U of L) School of Medicine, is seeking qualified applicants to join our Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service. We are seeking a full time psychiatrist who is board certified in Psychiatry to provide support half time to the Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (SARRTP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), Suboxone Clinic and half time to our inpatient unit.
Duties include the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of Veterans in Substance Use Disorder programs (SARRTP, IOP & Suboxone Clinic), as well as, Veterans admitted to Inpatient Psychiatry Unit. You will also admit and discharge patients from the Inpatient Psychiatry Unit, as well as doing consultation visits to hospital inpatients in other areas such as Medicine and Surgery. Night call will be rotated among the full psychiatry staff.
The Louisville, Kentucky Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), an affiliate of the University of Louisville (U of L) School of Medicine, is seeking candidates for a full-time staff psychiatrist to provide support in person or by tele-mental health for hospitalized patients within the Louisville VAMC, consultation with other services within the hospital to include the Emergency Department, and for patients in the outpatient clinic setting. This position may require training of medical students, interns, residents, and substance abuse fellows from U of L and Performance Improvement activities or other administrative duties as assigned. Candidates must be eligible for a faculty appointment. Candidates must be BC/BE in Psychiatry and hold a current, full, active and unrestricted license. Our Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences Service (MH&BSS) is a major training site for U of L psychiatry residents and medical students, and psychology, nursing, and social work students, and plays an active role in U of L's research program. MH&BSS has a nationally recognized treatment model including best practices for HCHV (Healthcare for Homeless Veterans) and VI/CWT (Veterans Industries/Compensated Work Therapy). Additional mental health programs include general outpatient and acute inpatient psychiatric treatment, ER, consultation-liaison, The Louisville, Kentucky Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC), an affiliate of the University of Louisville (U of L) School of Medicine,, Behavioral Health Lab, and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder Clinical Team.
This position is located within the Mental Health & Behavioral Sciences Service at the Robley Rex VA Medical Center with possible rotation to the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) as needed.
WORK SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 8:00 am -4:30 with one evening Suboxone Clinic (nights and weekends as needed)
Please note: This position requires taking call which is rotated with other staff psychiatrists.

- Substance abuse fellowship preferred

- Demonstrated ability to set measurable and realistically achievable goals and adjust to changing demands.
- Demonstrated skill in interacting with multi-disciplinary health care team in treating substance abuse and other issues.
- Demonstrated dependability and responsible leave usage.
- Previous experience as a Mental Health clinician providing direct care.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
