Industrial Oils and Lubricants

(IOL) business is seeking a Business Development Manager. This position will be responsible for growing IOL North America profitability by building the market position, identifying growth opportunities and leading the development and delivery of new products, applications and services to the customer and achieving growth goals. The position will also be responsible for leading one or more cross functional teams which impact multiple categories, contributing to the overall growth objectives for IOL. The Business Development Manager will also be a member of the North American Leadership Team for IOL.

Principal Accountabilities:
45% - Lead cross-functional teams in the development, communication and implementation of strategies to capture opportunities and grow business globally with current and prospective customers and new products in the market category(s). Responsible to demonstrate and instill core corporate values and business processes, align stakeholders as well as to coach and mentor team and business unit personnel. Develop and execute the Go-To-Market plan with technology, sales, operations, supply chain, research/development and marketing.

30% - Project management of customer growth initiatives and integrating contract requirements with business operations by working with cross-functional teams within Cargill and with the customers. Examine potential business opportunities by analyzing market strategies, customer requirements, potential, and financials; evaluate options; make value propositions, resolve internal priorities; recommend equity investments. This may include various Cargill product lines and may be international.

15% - Build and increase knowledge of Cargill products for industrial applications of various product lines. Work across Cargill business units (both North America and Globally) to identify and develop opportunities to leverage existing products and capabilities as well as new products and markets. Develop external customer and industry relationships to gain sufficient understanding of market drivers, trends and unmet needs. Communicates these within the organization and makes proposals on how to act, react, and manage opportunities.

10% - Develop and implement a strategy for growth with customers that define the business potential and detail a process for capturing it. This includes identifying the key decision makers, products, pricing, technical support needs, and other resources required to close sales.


Required Skills:
Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree

5 or more years of experience in Business to Business (B2B) market

Previous experience in developing, communicating and executing commercial/business strategies

Must be a “starter/builder” and possess a strong entrepreneurial orientation, driven to create, build and grow a new business

Demonstrated project management and organizational skills

Ability to engage and direct a team using influence

Ability to build long-term, sustainable business-to-business relationships within customer organizations

Demonstrated collaboration and leadership skills

Excellent communication and inter-personal skills at all levels in an organization

Ability to successfully operate in an ambiguous environment

Strong analytical skills coupled with the ability to think and act strategically

Ability to travel 30-50%, may include internationally

Preferred Skills:
Degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or business-related field.

12 or more years sales, business development or direct commercial experience in the industrial/chemical/food industry

Previous experience influencing, managing or directing new technology/new product development efforts specific to supporting strategic business or market initiatives and longer term growth objectives (product technology pipeline)


Working knowledge of one of the following or related categories: Paints, Coatings, Inks, Construction, Functional Fluids & Lubricants, di-electric fluids, adjuvants, asphalt

Management of a commercial P&L

Previous experience managing cross-functional commercial teams responsible development and execution of market strategies – (including product portfolio, technology pipeline, customer segmentation and commercialization).

Previous experience in development and execution of commercial roll-out strategies including development of value propositions, promotional plans, sales tools, commercial literature, and pricing plans.

Previous experience in industrial marketing with specialty chemicals

Experience with Cargill Marketing Academy methodology and tools

International experience, or exposure to global markets
