LABORATORY TECHNICIAN II

Performs in-process quality control tests of gas and electric meters to include PSC, customer high bill, in service performance (ISP) and other routine and special tests and initiates corrective action if required. Makes determination of service needed and performs a variety of operations to calibrate and adjust gas and electric meters of all types and sizes for accuracy and PSC compliance. Performs statistical acceptance tests of new gas and electric meters and time-of-use registers received from vendors. Prepares, maintains and programs time-of-use registers, electronic meters and recorders for both billing and load management applications. Retrofits gas and electric meters with various auxiliary data acquisition devices. Operates a variety of shop equipment including desktop and lap top computers, electric test machines, programming racks, gas provers, hydro testers, painting equipment and material handling equipment. Operates CRT, computerized testing, bar coding scanners and printing equipment, and associated laser light readers. Assembles, programs, and services electronic remote meter reading devices. Works closely with warehouse personnel to facilitate sample testing plan. Maintains materials and equipment to assure accurate and timely deliveries to customers.
Note: Lifts meters and equipment weighing up to 80 lbs.
Basic understanding of various gas & electric metering types and mech numbers.
Demonstrated understanding of the technical use of computerized gas and electric meter testing equipment. Basic familiarity with MS Office (Excel, E-mail) applications desired.

Demonstrated ability to make mathematical calculations involving use of fractions; do intricate work; follow and retain instructions.
Demonstrated ability to use hand and power tools.
Demonstrated ability to meet production levels in mechanical operations.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
Must pass U.S. Department of Transportation required chemical test.
Over two years of job related experience or equivalent combination of formal education/training and experience.
