Posting Summary: The University of Virginia is seeking a Research Program Manager to support the Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) and to serve as Managing Director of the nanoSTAR Institute, with experience managing technical programs, supervising staff, interacting with professionals across a broad spectrum of backgrounds, and grant and/or proposal writing. The position reports to the Associate Vice President for Research and (as Managing Director of nanoSTAR) reports to the nanoSTAR Director. The person in this position works closely with the Director of nanoSTAR Student Programs Outreach and other nanoSTAR faculty, and supervises the nanoSTAR staff.
The responsibilities of the Managing Director include facilitating new collaborative research opportunities; cultivating, maintaining, and supporting nanotechnology research and development activities among faculty, staff, government agencies, and industry; building external awareness of University capabilities and accomplishments, fostering a cross school nanotechnology community; overseeing staff and students in broad aspects of institute operation including research program development, budget & account management, marketing, communications, outreach, etc. In the role of Research Program Manager in the OVPR, responsibilities include supporting and assisting in development of pan-University research initiatives; developing and coordinating cross-school multi-investigator research programs, coordinating large center-level proposal preparation, assisting University's participation in and regional organizations and initiatives, and preparing prepare reports and provide technical support for organizations listed above. A Ph.D. is required; preference will be given to degrees in Science, Engineering, or Medicine.
