The Software Engineer is responsible for planning, designing, developing, testing, debugging, documenting and managing software applications. This includes responsibility for effectively presenting information and responding to questions from non-technical clients as well as technical peers. The position will also contribute to reviews and recommendations of vendor-supplied software products as well as development tools and environment best practices.

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience is required. Successful candidates should possess 5+ years experience creating software applications using technologies relevant to Rho development needs.

Knowledge of and experience with the following is highly desired:

Java web application development, Spring, Maven Experience with SQL and relational databases such as Oracle and MySQL Eclipse HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery Subversion Windows environment, Linux, Apache Tomcat server Developing web applications using generally accepted software engineering best practices, standards and techniques Advising project leads/clients regarding the complexity and effort required for software development projects Engaging with clients to learn their business process and determine requirements for software applications including developing iterative prototypes as a means of firming up requirements Agile development processes such as Scrum and Kanban as well as tools that are used for agile development

Other important knowledge areas for this position include the following:

Usability and user interface design and experience incorporating that knowledge in software applications Oracle database development using PL/SQL Experience working on a team for medium- to large-scale software application projects including coordinating with other programmers, adhering to team standards for development, documenting and managing source code/APIs/ interfaces, prioritizing needed modifications, and deploying new versions Working in a federally regulated environment with validated software

Candidates must be professional, team-oriented and have strong initiative. Must be highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and should possess the ability to multi-task effectively. Ideally, candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively at both a technical and non-technical level.
