Summary of Position

The Eagle Hall Housing Coordinator is a full-time professional staff member of the Student Activities Department and is responsible for providing overall supervision and leadership in the on-campus residence hall currently housing 248 residents. Primary responsibilities include staff supervision and development, residential education, community development, crisis management, administration and building management, student conduct, hall council advising, summer operations, and other departmental/campus-wide responsibilities. Because the Housing Coordinator is the main professional staff member available in the residence hall for student contact, a desire to spend evening and weekend time with students is required.

This person must be knowledgeable in all aspects of the College of Southern Idaho and have the ability to work with students, parents, faculty, and the public in a pleasant and professional manner. This is a 12-month, full-time residential position. Compensation includes a two-bedroom apartment, utilities, and a meal plan.

General Responsibilities

Staff Supervision and Development

The Housing Coordinator is responsible for providing leadership, supervision, and development for the staff within their area. These responsibilities include:

Selecting, training, and supervising Eagle Hall staff

Planning and conducting a week long orientation and training prior to the start of each semester

Providing for each Resident Advisor’s individual development through midterm performance evaluations

Facilitating on-going team building and staff development opportunities

Residential Education

The Housing Coordinator Is responsible for creating an environment where the educational potential of the residential environment can be realized. These responsibilities include:

Planning and implementing educational, cultural, and academic activities designed to meet the diverse developmental needs of students in conjunction with Eagle Hall council and Resident Advisor staff

Conducting formal and informal evaluations to determine the needs of residents

Community Development

The Housing Coordinator is responsible for fostering a sense of community in Eagle Hall. These responsibilities include:

Working with the Resident Advisor staff in the development of activities designed to develop connections between residents

Providing informal counseling and referral to individual students

Conducting roommate agreements for any conflicts that arise between residents and dealing with other resident concerns

Crisis Management

The Housing Coordinator is responsible for the management and referral of incidents that occur in Eagle Hall. These responsibilities include:

Participating in yearly AED and CPR/First Aid certification classes

Working closely with the Counseling Center and the Security Office

Maintaining awareness of campus and community resources

Managing student conduct cases (student meetings, conveyance and tracking of sanctions, etc.)

Referring cases to Judicial Action the student conduct system in a timely manner

Administration and Building Management

The Housing Coordinator is responsible for the overall administrative operations within Eagle Hall. These responsibilities include:

Providing hands-on leadership during check-in and check –out of the residence hall

Coordinating program budgets for the resident advisor’s hall activities and the Eagle Hall council accounts

Organizing damage liability and facilitating the billing process for summer camps

Ensuring the proper management of keys (student room, and staff/Cage keys)

Building relationships with maintenance, security officers, and the Public Safety Director to assure that physical environment is maintained at optimum levels

Eagle Hall Council Advising

The Housing Coordinator is responsible for the development of strong student leadership opportunities. These responsibilities include:

Recruiting and actively supporting the formation of Eagle Hall Council

Advising Eagle Hall council members as they work to accomplish their goals

Facilitating individual and team development opportunities for the student leaders

Summer Operations

The Housing Coordinator is responsible for the summer activities in Eagle Hall. These responsibilities include:

Coordinating a variety of summer camps with several different organizations

Hiring and supervising staff in the residence hall during the summer months

Overseeing the end of semester furniture repairs and cleanings of the residence hall

Qualifications/Skills

Prefer Bachelor’s Degree or higher in education, psychology, sociology, or related field

Previous experience in counseling/managing/supervising students in large group settings, preferably in a residential setting

Strong written/oral interpersonal communication skills

Prefer experience with Judicial Action and Outlook software

Ability to be flexible with their schedule

Strong organizational abilities

Strong interpersonal skills

Prefer experience with Microsoft Office applications

Must be self-starter with a strong work ethic

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

Residential position

Must be able to lift and carry up to 25-35 lbs

Must be comfortable and flexible to work on a variety of tasks in a busy, hectic environment
