DuPont Titanium Technologies is currently seeking a highly motivated individual to join the R&D group at its titanium dioxide manufacturing site in Pass Christian, Mississippi. As the world’s leading producer of titanium dioxide pigment, DuPont Titanium Technologies encompasses 5 major manufacturing sites, including 3 in the United States, 1 in Mexico, and 1 in Taiwan, as well as product, process, and business units located in Wilmington, DE and throughout the world. The DeLisle plant is one of the largest of its kind and offers opportunities for development over a wide range of unit operations. Moreover, its location on the Mississippi gulf coast provides ample opportunity for local recreation combined with easy access to the major metropolitan areas of New Orleans, Louisiana and Mobile, Alabama.

The successful candidate for this position will be self-motivated, able to quickly develop skills and knowledge in new areas, and comfortable working simultaneously on multiple programs that have impact at multiple manufacturing sites.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

Develop and implement incremental improvements and new technologies for titanium dioxide pigment packaging systems.

Provide mechanical engineering expertise on ventilation and air handling systems, dust collection systems, small bag autopackers, semi-bulk container packaging systems, palletizing equipment, etc.

Drive business initiatives for world class performance in safety, yield, reliability, uptime, quality, capacity, and minimization of environmental footprint.

Lead site improvements from definition and research of opportunities, through laboratory and plant testing, and ultimately to design, installation, and startup of capital equipment.

Coordinate projects and communicate findings with plant personnel and colleagues across the circuit.

Provide technical support to Operations by analyzing process data, troubleshooting upsets, and maintaining high operating efficiency.

Continually evaluate industry and environmental trends regarding powder packaging, handling, palletizing, conditioning, and dust control equipment.

Qualifications

Requirements:
A BS or MS degree in mechanical engineering.

3 or more years of experience in industrial R&D or manufacturing.

Strong organizational, experimental, and analytical skills.

Demonstrated mechanical aptitude.

Independent problem solving skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Ability to lead and work in diverse cross-functional teams.

Other Desired Experience:
Non-rigid packaging (e.g. Multiwall Kraft paper bags, gusseted plastic bags,woven fabric SBCs, etc.).

Package performance test methods (drop tests, materials testing, etc.).

Bag designs, specifications, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.

Bag sealing technologies (heat welding, hot melt adhesive application, etc.).

Palletizing and load securing systems (stretch/shrink wrap, etc.).

Ventilation, air handling, and dust control systems.

PLC and computer / electro-mechanical machine controls.

Knowledge of mechanical integrity / quality assurance.

Six Sigma certification or training in statistical analysis.
