Job Summary:
Leads and directs system signal construction forces in the planning, construction and placing in-service of construction projects, ensuring that all CSX Transportation (CSXT) maintenance and safety rules and standards are followed. Effectively manages best practice in safety, quality and production, and identifies opportunities for continuous improvement.

Primary Activities and Responsibilities:
Supervise and coordinate the activities of CSXT system signal construction forces in the planning, construction, and implementation of various signal construction projects within assigned region.

Manage safety performance within assigned territory. Assess and manage the personal safety of all assigned signal construction teams. Verify and monitor compliance with CSXT safety rules and CSXT standards, and ensures operational safety of each project. Provides required training to ensure employees know and understand the required Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) testing and inspection of signal equipment.

Coordinate between all CSXT departments, outside party interest, utility companies and contractors. Maintain a close interaction with all those disciplines affected by the construction of the signal projects.

Oversees signal project management, to ensure budget, timelines, and quality guidelines are maintained throughout the construction process.

Assign work to employees, support construction project schedule, and approve time sheets and expenses for the contract workforce.

Supervise and coordinate the activities of personnel during system emergencies, incidents, and weather related emergencies which cause disruptions to the CSX signal system.

Train and equip employees to successfully complete assigned tasks.

Miscellaneous activities and responsibilities as assigned by manager.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree from an accredited institution required in Electronics/Electronic Trades, Engineering, or related fields

3 or more years of experience required in Electronics/Electronic Trades or Engineering (civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical)

Equivalent Minimum Qualifications:
High School diploma/GED required

5 or more years of experience required in Electronics/Electronic Trades or Engineering (civil, structural, electrical, or mechanical)

Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to meeting the above qualifications, the following is preferred:

5 or more years of supervisory experience in Signal Maintenance or Signal Construction

Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of signal maintenance

Knowledge of signal testing procedures

Knowledge of signal system components and methods

Ability to read and understand circuit plans

Knowledge of CSXT operating/safety rules, signal standards, and signal rules and instructions

Knowledge of FRA rules and regulations governing railroad signals and train control systems

Job Requirements:
Wear protective equipment such as welding shields, hard hat, hearing protection, steel-toe boots, work boots, safety vest, face shield, and safety glasses.

Work hours varying in length and schedule. Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek.

Up to 75% travel required.

Work hours include on call 7 days a week, 24 hours per day, with extended periods of time away from home.

Need to be available to report to work with two-hour advance notice.

Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol.

The applicant selected for this position may be required to successfully complete a background check and physical including a drug test. Passing results must be received prior to start date in new position.

Environmental Conditions:
Work outside in all weather conditions.

Work in confined spaces.

Work at elevated heights, in certain instances in excess of 100 feet.

Work with hazardous materials on an occasional basis.
