Location: Little Chute, Wisconsin (about 10 minutes from Appleton and close to Green Bay)
The Human Resources Intern will perform a broad range of HR responsibilities in support of the on-site manufacturing plant operations and corporate headquarters. The HR Intern will gain hands on experience in the areas of staffing, on-boarding, training, compliance, policy development, pay and benefits administration, and job description development as well as learn how the HR department impacts the organization, managers, employees, and job applicants.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Hiring Process & On-Boarding
o Assist with the coordination and administration of the hiring process for hourly and salaried recruitment. Responsibilities will include drafting job postings, posting jobs on internet sites, screening applications, managing candidate correspondence, scheduling interviews, interviewing, checking references, administering background check and drug testing processes, applicant tracking documentation, record retention, and preparing job offers.
o Assist Production Manager with temporary agency communication to meet variable staffing needs.
o Coordinate process and logistics for onsite hiring events and attend local community job fairs representing Victor Allen’s.
o Schedule employee orientation meetings ensuring all new hires complete the on-boarding process.
- Compliance, Policies & Training
o Assist with the development of new or revised workplace policies and coordinate related training.
o Conduct harassment-free workplace training.
o Maintain training attendance logs.
o Maintain personnel files.
o Complete employment practice compliance audit.
o Assist other departments with training coordination or documentation (i.e. Quality, Safety, Production)
- Compensation & Benefits Administration
o Assist VP of Finance with employee status change administration and payroll process.
o Complete new hire and termination paperwork and checklist items.
o Assist Production Manager with tracking hourly employee time and attendance.
o Administer benefit status changes and new hire enrollment in benefit plans.
o Assist with researching and responding to employee’s questions regarding pay, time off and benefits.
o Work closely with department managers to write job descriptions and capture physical job demands.
o Maintain organization chart.
- Actively pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Business and Human Resources Management or related major.
- Project and timeline management experience.
- Knowledge of employment law and HR practices.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is a plus.
- Experience hiring or supervising is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to meet the needs of employees and the business.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic, reliability, teamwork and flexibility.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Proficient using MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
- Must successfully pass criminal background check and drug and alcohol screen
