The Political Department builds the political capacity for People For the American Way to engage in electoral campaigns and causes. The Political Department also serves as a hub for strategic services to multiple departments and advises strategic planning and messaging.
Internships in the Political Department of People For the American Way provide students a unique learning opportunity to gain comprehensive insight into the political process and inner workings of the operations of a premier national organization. Our interns are a critical component of our operations and require discretion and significant knowledge of electoral politics. Internships are unpaid, many interns have arranged academic credit in the past.
Applicants for this position must be strong writers, have a keen eye for details and be well organized. Well qualified applicants should have a basic understanding of political campaigns and electoral politics and be eager to learn more. Applicants should be effective team members who are willing to work hard to advance a progressive political agenda and who want to have fun while doing so. Experience working or volunteering on political campaigns or enrollment in a Masters program for politics is preferred but not required.
People For the American Way's Political Department offers internships to help with the following duties:
Periodically attend and staff congressional hearings, briefings, coalition meetings, and other internal and external events.
Perform various administrative support tasks including assistance with development activities.
Help draft alerts and memos.
Assist with PFAW electoral campaigns.
Assist with development and fundraising administrative tasks when needed.
Other duties as assigned.
