The Product Owner communicates customer needs, guides releases, and collaborates with the team and stakeholders on an ongoing basis. The Product Owner represents the needs and wants of end customers, Product Management, Engineering, and stakeholders, creating alignment by making sure everyone is pulling toward the same goal.

Role and Responsibilities
  • Produce and maintain a prioritized project backlog for all assigned projects (may act as a Product Owner over multiple and/or distributed teams)
  • Ensure the needs of the business and customers are represented and understood by the team
  • Ensure that primary stakeholders understand the state of the project at all times
  • Maintain a strong bias toward meeting the business needs and goals with elegant simplicity and high quality, actively resisting feature creep
  • Actively participate in agile gatherings (stand-ups, grooming, sprint reviews, and retrospectives)
  • Track with technical progress of the project to stay informed about the impact of technical designs and team decisions on business goals
  • Identify key project risks early, building and executing mitigation plans effectively to meet project milestones and deadlines
  • Along with stakeholders, determine doneness criteria and evaluate whether releases and sprints meet criteria
  • Work with Scrum Master and team to refine agile processes--increasing velocity, delivering inventory, and eliminating waste
  • Drive alignment and collaboration with other teams and stakeholders (e.g. Content Services, Sales, Customer Support, User Experience, and Technical Communications teams) in the agile process
  • Track business priorities and market viability, using this to refine a prioritized backlog
  • Become a technical and business expert on the strengths and weaknesses of the product
  • Gather facts surrounding project impediments and decision points, in order to make effective and precise decisions

Qualifications
  • Ability to make fact-based decisions and to document the evidence that led to those decisions
  • Experience with effective communication and negotiation at all levels, from senior management to individual contributors
  • Knowledge and deep understanding of Agile and Scrum
  • Experience translating complex business requirements into an engineering backlog
  • Experience reporting agile project progress to senior and executive level management
  • Experience making technical presentations at conferences and sales meetings
