Advise undergraduate students in the College of Journalism and Mass Communications (CoJMC). Using knowledge of CoJMC programs, policies, and procedures as well as University programs, this person will advise students, primarily on a walk-in basis, concerning course and program selection based on an evaluation of the student's interests and record. Advising will also be done on an appointment basis and by mail, e-mail, and telephone. Assist students in understanding academic standards, major options, and requirements. Assist with recruitment and retention efforts, as well as registration activities. Maintain degree audit files and evaluation of files, and delivery of on campus orientation programs.
Bachelor's degree plus demonstrated relevant experience with one-to-one college student interaction, preferably in advising required. Excellent interpersonal skills and computer skills necessary. Must have demonstrated organizational, time management, and writing skills and the ability to learn extensive requirements, policies, and procedures. Must be able to work as an effective team member.
Master's degree preferred. Prefer academic/career advising experience; presentation skills, ability to communicate effectively with large groups; and a general understanding of admissions, retention, and graduation requirements.
