Job Description:
Kelly Scientific Resources has an immediate need for a
Non Human Primate Technician for a research farm in
Freeland, MD. The position pays $16/hour and is
temp-to-hire. 1. Job duties A. Perform routine animal
husbandry procedures. B. Provide daily enrichment for
nonhuman primates. Includes rotational creative use of
food and physical devices to enrich the physical
environment. Collection, maintenance and compliance of
written documentation and records. C. Responsible for
the institutional nonhuman primate quarantine program.
Preparing areas for new arrivals, administration of
drugs used for restraint and treatment; intradermal
tuberculin testing and observation and documentation of
test results; Collecting required biological samples for
analysis and treatment; tattoo/chip/tag; obtain routine
weights for multiple nonhuman primate species such as
but not limited to macaques, baboons, marmosets, and
squirrel monkeys. D. Assist veterinary staff, research
staff, and Animal Resources personnel as needed. This
includes provisions of medical care/treatments,
anesthesia or research manipulations. E. Provide
assistance with receiving and shipping laboratory
animals. F. There is some responsibility for routine
farm maintenance including using a tractor and pickup
truck on the farm. 2. Requirements A. A.A. degree in
Veterinary Technology, Animal Science or Biology, but
previous animal experience may substitute for a degree.
The ability to provide drug calculations, read and
write. B. Experience with nonhuman primates and/or
experience with larger species preferred. Must be able
to perform manipulations with specific techniques, such
as but not limited to intravenous, intramuscular and
subcutaneous injections. C. Certification by the
American Association of Laboratory Animal Science at the
Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician ALAT is required
after 15 months of employment. D. Must be able to work
independently. E. Must be able to work a rotating
schedule which includes some weekends and holidays.
